Anadolu University is a major public university in Eskişehir, central Turkey. The institution began as the "Eskişehir Academy of Commercial and Economic Sciences" and was transformed into Anadolu University by the Turkish government in 1982 during the surge in demand for higher education in the 1970s–80s.
Growth and reputation: Despite being relatively young, Anadolu has grown into one of Turkey's most important modern and dynamic universities. Eskişehir has come to be known as the "City of Youth and Scientific Culture" largely because of the university — drawing huge numbers of students who come for high-quality education.
Structure: 17 academic faculties and more than 50 academic departments, with extensive libraries and diverse scientific laboratories.
Distance learning — a national leader: Anadolu is internationally known for its Open Education Faculty, one of the largest distance-education programs in the world, with millions of students enrolled over the years. Particularly relevant for students who need flexible study schedules.
Notable faculties:
Admission: Anadolu accepts SAT, YÖS, and Tawjihi certificates from international applicants. Apply at anasis.anadolu.edu.tr.
Tuition (international students): Approximately $400–1,200 per year for most undergraduate programs.
Scholarships: Eligible for Türkiye Bursları full government scholarship.
Accommodation: KYK state dormitories and private student housing widely available. Eskişehir is a true university town — living costs are very affordable, typical monthly expenses $250–450.
Why Eskişehir: A youthful, dynamic city with a strong student culture, walkable centre, low cost of living, and easy access to Ankara and Istanbul. Particularly popular with Arab students who want a calmer, more affordable environment than Istanbul.
Recognition: YÖK-accredited and recognised across the Arab world.
