Erzurum Technical University (ETÜ) — known in Turkish as Erzurum Teknik Üniversitesi — is a public university in Erzurum, eastern Anatolia. Founded in 2010, it is the second public university in Erzurum (after the older and larger Atatürk University), and was established to give the region a more specialised, technically focused alternative.
Ranking: ETÜ holds approximately the 89th rank among Turkish public universities — a respectable mid-tier placement for a young institution.
Language of instruction: Predominantly Turkish across all programs. International students typically complete TÖMER Turkish preparation before joining their main degree.
International programs: ETÜ participates in the Erasmus+ student-exchange program with leading European universities, offering students opportunities for European study experiences.
Structure: The university operates 6 faculties, multiple research and applied centres, institutes, and vocational schools. Masters and doctoral programs are available across most disciplines.
Notable programs:
Admission: ETÜ accepts SAT, YÖS, and high-school diplomas with adequate GPA. Apply at ubys.erzurum.edu.tr.
Tuition (international students): Approximately $400–1,200 per year for most undergraduate programs.
Scholarships: Türkiye Bursları (full government scholarship) is the main pathway for fully funded international study.
Living in Erzurum: Erzurum sits at ~1,900 m altitude with cold snowy winters (it's a major ski destination — Palandöken is one of Turkey's top resorts). Cost of living is well below western Turkey — student rent typically $150–300/month. The city is traditional and conservative, with strong infrastructure thanks to also hosting the larger Atatürk University.
Recognition: Diplomas are accredited by Turkey's YÖK (Higher Education Council) and recognised across the Arab world. ETÜ is particularly attractive to students who want a smaller, specialised public university in Erzurum with active Erasmus exchange opportunities.
Verify current English-medium availability and dormitory options directly with the university before applying.
