Gaziantep Islamic Sciences and Technology University (GİBTÜ) — known in Turkish as Gaziantep İslam Bilim ve Teknoloji Üniversitesi — is a public university in Gaziantep in southeastern Turkey. Founded on 18 May 2018, the university was established with a deliberate dual focus on Islamic sciences and modern technology, distinguishing it from the older Gaziantep University in the same city.
Distinctive identity: GİBTÜ is one of a small group of public universities in Turkey that combine an explicit Islamic-sciences mission with a strong engineering and applied-technology curriculum — well-positioned for students from the Arab world seeking both.
Language of instruction: Both Turkish and English options across most programs.
Structure: The university operates 15 faculties, 4 graduate institutes, 3 higher-education institutes, 10 vocational institutes, and a national music arts institute.
International cooperation: GİBTÜ maintains active cooperation agreements with universities across the European Union, United States, Canada, Australia, Latin America, and Asia.
Notable faculties and programs:
Admission: GİBTÜ accepts its own YÖS exam only — SAT and high-school diplomas alone are not accepted. Apply at ubys.gibtu.edu.tr.
Tuition (international students): Approximately $500–1,500 per year for most undergraduate programs; medicine and dentistry are higher (~$3,000–5,000).
Scholarships: Türkiye Bursları (full government scholarship) is the main pathway for fully funded international study.
Living in Gaziantep: Gaziantep is Turkey's 6th-largest city, in the southeast near the Syrian border, famous for its UNESCO-recognised cuisine, ancient mosaics, and strong industrial base. Cost of living is well below Istanbul — student rent typically $150–300/month — and the city has a large Arabic-speaking community due to historic ties with northern Syria.
Recognition: Diplomas are accredited by Turkey's YÖK and recognised across the Arab world. GİBTÜ is particularly attractive to students who want to combine Islamic studies with modern technology and engineering.
Note: GİBTÜ requires its own institution-specific YÖS exam. Verify dates, fees, and exam centres directly with the university before applying.
