Hitit University (Hitit Üniversitesi) is a public university in the city of Çorum, in central-northern Turkey. The university became independent on 17 March 2006, having previously been part of Gazi University in Ankara — meaning it inherits academic traditions from one of Turkey's most established universities. The institution is named after the ancient Hittite civilisation, whose capital Hattusa lies within Çorum province (a UNESCO World Heritage site).
Language of instruction: Predominantly Turkish, with an evening-education option for working students.
Broad admission policy: Hitit is notable for accepting all international high-school diplomas, including YÖS and SAT scores — a relatively flexible approach compared to many Turkish public universities.
Structure: The university operates 11 faculties, 3 graduate institutes, 2 higher-education institutes, 7 vocational-training institutes, and 11 research and application centres.
Notable faculties:
Notable programs: History, Turkish language and literature, economics, management science, political science and public administration, theology, food engineering, mechanical engineering, metallurgical and materials engineering, sports management, physical education and sports teaching, coach education, banking and finance, public finance, chemical engineering, nursing.
Admission: Hitit accepts SAT, YÖS, and high-school diplomas with adequate GPA. Apply at register.hitit.edu.tr.
Tuition (international students): Approximately $500–1,500 per year for most undergraduate programs; medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine are higher (~$2,500–4,500).
Scholarships: Türkiye Bursları (full government scholarship) is the main pathway for fully funded international study.
Living in Çorum: Çorum is a mid-sized city in central-northern Turkey, with continental climate, traditional regional character, and low cost of living — student rent typically $120–250/month. The city is reachable from Ankara (~3 hours) and Samsun on the Black Sea (~2 hours). The nearby Hattusa archaeological site offers world-class historical surroundings.
Recognition: Diplomas are accredited by Turkey's YÖK and recognised across the Arab world. Hitit's broad admission policy makes it particularly attractive for international students with non-standard qualifications.
Verify current admission paths for medical and veterinary programs (these may require additional testing) directly with the university before applying.
