Izmir University of Economics (IEU) was founded through the efforts of the "Izmir Chamber of Commerce and Health Education Foundation" under Law No. 4633 dated 14 April 2001. The university was established to educate and cultivate young people capable of effective participation in raising the country's economic level.

Historic distinction: IEU is the first private university established in the city of Izmir and the Aegean region. This pioneering status gives the university particular standing in the region.
