Muş Alparslan University (Muş Alparslan Üniversitesi) is a public university in the city of Muş, in eastern Turkey. Founded in 2007, the university is named after Sultan Alp Arslan, the Seljuk ruler who won the Battle of Malazgirt (1071) against the Byzantines — a decisive moment in Turkish history. The Malazgirt battlefield itself lies in the Muş region.
Ranking: Muş Alparslan holds approximately the 116th rank among Turkish public universities — a lower placement reflecting its small size and regional location.
Language of instruction: Both Turkish and English options across many programs. International students typically complete TÖMER preparation before joining their main degree.
Selective international admission: Despite accepting various international credentials (including high-school diplomas, YÖS, and SAT), the university has historically accepted only a small number of foreign students. Verify current acceptance rates and seat availability directly with the university before planning.
Structure: The university operates 8 faculties and 13 research centres.
Notable faculties:
Admission: Muş Alparslan accepts SAT, YÖS, and high-school diplomas with adequate GPA. Apply at obs.alparslan.edu.tr.
Tuition (international students): Approximately $300–800 per year for most undergraduate programs — among the lowest in Turkey.
Scholarships: Türkiye Bursları (full government scholarship) is the main pathway for fully funded international study.
Living in Muş: Muş is a small city in eastern Anatolia at ~1,300 m altitude, surrounded by mountains. The climate is continental with very cold snowy winters and warm summers, and the regional culture is distinct (significant Kurdish heritage). Cost of living is very low — student rent typically $80–150/month. The city is remote, with limited international amenities — best suited to students who accept a quiet eastern Anatolian setting.
Recognition: Diplomas are accredited by Turkey's YÖK (Higher Education Council) and recognised across the Arab world. Best suited to students who specifically want Kurdish-language studies, teacher training, or extremely affordable education in eastern Anatolia.
Verify current international-student seat availability (acceptance has historically been limited) and dormitory options directly with the university before applying.
