Sabancı University — Istanbul

Sabancı University is one of Turkey's most prestigious private universities, conceived with a deliberate vision of being a "global university". The Sabancı Group decided in 1994 to establish the university under its leadership, recognising that an increasingly globalised world needed individuals with the knowledge and skills required for international job markets.

The founding process — a deliberate, research-driven design: In summer 1995, Sabancı University launched what would become one of Turkey's most comprehensive educational social-responsibility projects. A research conference brought together 50 academics from 22 countries, along with students and private-sector representatives.

The conference was just the beginning. It launched a wide-scale process in which leading educational institutions in Turkey and around the world were studied — analysing how they work and identifying the fundamentals that made them successful.

A new educational model: By studying the academic and operational systems of the best educational institutions globally, Sabancı University was designed as a new and unique university. Starting in 1999 when the first students enrolled, Sabancı set itself as a model that many other Turkish universities have since followed.

Admission: Sabancı accepts SAT and university entrance exams; YÖS may be required depending on the program. English proficiency (TOEFL/IELTS) is mandatory.

Tuition (annual, international students): Approximately $20,000–28,000 for undergraduate programs. Generous merit scholarships available — Sabancı, like Koç, actively recruits top international students with substantial aid.

Campus: Modern integrated campus in Tuzla, eastern Istanbul, with on-site dormitories, libraries, research labs, and sports facilities. Accessible from central Istanbul via the Marmaray.

Recognition: YÖK-accredited and globally recognised. Sabancı graduates regularly secure admission to top graduate programs worldwide and to multinational employers.
